Remember that one time?

So um, you remember that one time I talked about the Flu and how it had a vaccine. Or polio and how it had a vaccine, or like how the mumps/measles have resurfaced but they too have a vaccine. Yeah. We’re going to go back to that and talk about it. As you all know from reading my blogs there are certain diseases that are still around but like they don’t have to be. We have the resources to make these diseases completely go away and yet they’re still here. Which is kind of funny because it’s not like these diseases are getting angrier and mutating it’s just that the people of our world are getting “angrier” over stupid stuff. (I’m talking about those who want to get rid of vaccines) Some of these diseases that we could get rid of through diseases would include the measles, the mumps or even chickenpox? Now I know there are like certain circumstances that are different. Like the flu which does mutate every year leading to a new vaccine, yeah now I get that. Or even how the chickenpox can become latent and return later in life to continue to infect others through transmissions yeah I get that as well. But like the measles nor the mumps have a circumstance as such (or so I believe).

Measles vaccine can help!

So unfortunately the number of measles cases is starting on a rise when it use to be a disease with low almost no numbers of cases. This is because of… I’m sure you could guess.. people not vaccinating their children! The MMR vaccine should be stopping the infections of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella. According to a CNN article, this vaccination is known to be 97% effective. 97%!! The vaccine should be stopping infections as the measles doesn’t mutate meaning we don’t need new vaccines. We have one good one that should be working really well, but…here we are still seeing cases of it. Now I know that I harp a lot on how there are people that don’t believe in vaccinating, there are other reasons of why people don’t vaccinate. In the article it gave three main reasons as to why people don’t vaccinate, lack of access, complacency and fear of vaccination. The first one bothers me because I feel like if we have the resources, why are we not helping others who don’t. Like we all know that helping others would get this disease to go away quicker. Like yeah sure it’s a lot of resources but what if someone who doesn’t have access to it comes and infects your child. I’m not in anyway shaming the person who doesn’t have access, I’m just saying that it could benefit us all by helping others since this vaccine could completely eradicate the measles.

Package Deal!

I hinted at it in the last section but the vaccine for the measles is the same used to prevent the mumps! I know, exciting right, who doesn’t love a good package deal? Especially in vaccines. The MMR vaccine is used to fight against, both the measles and the mumps but also rubella! Soooo, same with the measles WE HAVE A VACCINE THAT WORKS AND CAN ERADICATE THE DISEASE. Yes, we can get rid of the mumps too. But unfortunately this is yet another disease that we continue to see. You wanna hear a scary part of it though, a lot of these cases are surfacing in students. dun…Dun…DUNNNNNNN. I mean just the other week we got an email on how a student here got the mumps. Not only is it happening here though, I found an article where Wales (the place), is urging it’s students to make sure that they have the vaccine as they are also seeing significant rises as well. But same with measles the vaccine is pretty dang effective at preventing so if we could you know, keep vaccinating then maybe it would go away like the others could as well. But for now, here we are…still getting emails of rising cases of the mumps.
